Project Statement

The goal of this project is to create a universally designed grocery shopping device for manually-operated wheelchair users and non-wheelchair users. The device must incorporate mobile/wireless technology to offer further aid when grocery shopping.  This project was a collaboration with Isabel Newsome and Vanya Padmanabhan.

After comparing the task analyses for both standing users and wheelchair users, we identified the major discrepancies between the groups' grocery shopping processes.  Using the task analyses as a framework, we sketched concepts that would meet the needs of each group.  With the guidance of our professor and wheelchair users at the Shepherd Center, we designed shopping carts that could serve both wheelchair users and standing users.
